late night thoughts about an amazing God.

I'm obsessed with mountains. Their awe-inspiring heights dazzle the brain. When standing at the base
of a mountain and looking up, You can't see the mountaintop, because it is just so massive.

Think of this: God made that. His creativity is so astounding; He created the mountains out of His own thoughts. He thought it, and it was made. And it is good. Not only did He make one mountain, he made mountain ranges. So many ranges with each being individually unique. We have the Blue Ridge, the Sierra Nevadas, the Rockies, the Alps, the Tenerifes, the Andes, the Hindu-Kush, the Grand Tetons, the Himalayas, etc. As an artist, I marvel at the mountain ranges and how incredibly beautiful they are. As a Christian, I look at them and wonder at how He could whip out every mountain range from His mind.

If His creation is so beautiful, how infinitely more beautiful is He?

Then, I think about how insignificant humans are compared to the mountains. You can see mountains from space. From space! That's how huge they are. Humans are smaller than ants compared to mountains. At least we can see ants from our place towering above them. Humans can't be seen from space. Even in Google Maps, you can't see humans.

Despite our infinitesimalness (fun word), God loved us so much that He gave His Son for us. Jesus loved us so much that he died for us, he humbled himself. How would you like to die for dirty sinners that hate your guts? I didn't think so. THAT is the kind of love he had for us.

Even more inspiring is this: God created the whole world. He created EVERYTHING. When I am bogged down in my human stupidity, I can think of this verse.

John 16:33 "I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world, you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world."

My favorite verse from my favorite book of the Bible. It's almost like Jesus is saying, "No big deal, I've just, ya know, overcome the world. You'll be fine cuz you're Mine."
Seriously! How???!!! I squeal whenever I think of this verse, because I can't comprehend any of it. And I, in my limited vocabulary, cannot possibly write down what this means to me.

Thank you for listening to my rant about how insignificant we are.
